The role of the CRC for Greenhouse Accounting is to:

  • Increase understanding of the Australian terrestrial carbon cycle and the forces driving change;
  • predict responses of biophysical systems (particularly carbon dynamics) to global change;
  • develop methods for accurately measuring terrestrial carbon fluxes, sources and sinks; and
  • develop innovative ways to manage the Australian carbon cycle to achieve national GHG reduction objectives.

The Victorian Dept. of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) is charged with generating wealth through the sustainable development of Victoria's natural resources. It achieves this while delivering improvements to the quality of the environment and the social well being of the Victorian community. Many of its services are delivered in close partnership with community groups and this enables the Department to have a good grasp of the current and emerging issues.

See also www.greenhouse.vic.gov.au, which discusses Victorian greenhouse gas emissions and abatement strategies.

The Department of Energy, Utilities and Sustainability (DEUS) promotes sustainable, safe, reliable and affordable energy and urban water in NSW. We are working in the areas of:

State Forests of New South Wales is a Government Trading Enterprise responsible for managing Australia's largest planted forest estate (comprising Pinus and eucalypts) of over 250,000 hectares. State Forests offers a full range of forest management services, particularly around new plantation establishment and management for timber and environmental services such as carbon sinks, salinity amelioration and biodiversity enhancement. State Forests actively promotes accounting for and trading of carbon in sinks as cost-effectively mitigating greenhouse gas impacts.

SEDA is an agency created by the NSW Government to reduce the level of greenhouse gas emissions in the state. SEDA accomplishes this by promoting investment in the commercialisation and use of sustainable energy technologies.
